Closing the books: CDN’s longtime business contributor, Frank Catalano, is no longer writing for your hyper-local newspaper — meaning this newsletter, Business Matters with Frank Catalano, has been discontinued. Frank informed editors of his decision following the firing of former executive editor Ron Judd.
In a LinkedIn post, Frank said that his resignation won’t register to most, aside from the subscribers to this monthly newsletter (which Ron primarily edited).
“With Ron’s firing, I'm wrapping it up,” Frank wrote. “The ownership — [David] Syre — and the business side leadership have broken my confidence in the direction of the organization. From this business journalist’s and former longtime business executive’s perspective, the firing is a business mistake, too.”
Since June 2022, Frank has assumed many roles for CDN: a weekly (then bi-weekly) columnist, an avid business news writer and tipster, and finally, a monthly newsletter writer. His participation in this project to date will be greatly missed by our news staff and we appreciate his various contributions to Cascadia Daily News and his continued support of the newsroom.
